The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, Yosemite National Park’s largest grove of the famed trees, currently is closed for a major restoration project. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it is closed to the public.
That’s because Yosemite National Park and Google have built upon their epic Street View presentation of iconic El Capitan, released in June featuring the likes of climbing legends Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell.
The Google Maps presentations of Yosemite and, on a more limited basics, other national parks and well-known landscapes can be found here.
The Yosemite Street View features include park geologists, wildlife biologists and other staff who share their knowledgeable and experience about the natural and cultural features of El Capitan and Yosemite National Park.
Previously, Google and Yosemite collaborated on vertical Street View imagery up the face of El Capitan, including interviews and explanations from world-renowned rock climbers such as Caldwell, Honnold and Lynn Hill. A Street View tour of Honnold’s famous van is part of the package.

As the stewards of Yosemite, planning for the Centennial of the National Park Service, we are excited to partner with companies such as Google on these types of projects,” stated Don Neubacher, Yosemite National Park Superintendent. “We appreciate our strong partnership with Google and look forward to future projects.”
